True Nature series: forest bathing x yin yoga

  • Bukit Batok Nature Park Singapore (map)
Be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe. No less than the trees and the stars. In the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.
— Max Ehrmann

The True Nature series is all about reconnections and gentle self-care. It is a collaboration between Xiu Nature Connections and Yoga with Des. In the month of August, we will be conducting another forest bathing x yin yoga self-care session.

In this 3-hour experience, you will be guided to explore and discover your relationships and connections with nature - outer and inner. Forest bathing takes you on a gentle and slow immersion in the nature around you, awakening all your senses and unfolding your personal stories that nature holds for you. Tuning in to your body, surrendering to your nature (in nature), Yin yoga awakens conversations with your body which may have been drowned out by urban hustling and bustling. A simple tea ceremony - a communing with nature, ends your gentle self-care experience, and we hope you have re-discovered the peace in your soul.

Science and research studies on forest bathing have quantified health benefits including improved mental clarity, increase body immune functions, increase production of anti-cancer proteins, lower stress levels, lower blood sugar levels and lower blood pressure.

We invite you to join us in gifting yourself the luxury of time, the luxury of gentleness, and the luxury of self-love. Your true nature awaits you.

This experience is crafted to be slow, soothing and safe. It is accessible to everyone and no prior experience in yoga, trekking, hiking are required.

FAQs

Am I suitable for the True Nature: forest bathing x yin yoga programme if I have no prior yoga experience?

No prior yoga experience is required. Yin yoga is a gentle, introspective practice that is more of a 'work-in' than a 'work-out'. Postures are generally passive in nature, held for longer periods (about 3 - 5 minutes each), and intended to improve the health of connective tissues and joints, rather than build muscle strength. Do, however, let us know if you have any physical injuries so that we can suggest alternative/modified postures whenever neccessary.

Must I bring my own yoga mat and other accessories?

Please bring your own yoga mat or yoga towel. No other yoga props are required. Upon registration, we will also email you a comprehensive list of other essential and non-yoga items to bring such as water, umbrellas, insect repellent etc.

Is there a minimum age requirement for this event?

The programme is designed based on the principles of forest bathing. As it is a slow, mindful and contemplative experience, it would be more suited to anyone above the age of 16.

What if it rains?

In case of wet weather, we will personally contact you at least 30 minutes before the meeting time to confirm if the session will proceed or be cancelled. Generally, sessions are cancelled only in the event of very heavy downpour or if there is risk og lightning. For sessions that are cancelled by the host/guide/facilitator, participants can register for another similar session without any additional charges. However, there will be no refunds.

What happens when there are not enough participants to start the session?

We rarely cancel sessions due to small number of participants. However, if we do, paid registrants will receive notifications from us and can register for another similar session without any additional charges.

ABOUT YOUR FACILITATORS

You Min is a certified nature and forest therapy guide with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs, USA. A pioneer guide in Singapore, she is passionate about sharing nature and forest therapy for well-being, especially for stressed out and disconnected city dwellers. Slowing down, re-connecting with nature and discovering oneself - these are part of her story. And her intention is clear - to support others on their journeys through her nature therapy practice. Spearheading nature therapy for wellness in the ASEAN region, You Min leads forest bathing sessions at wellness retreats in Chiang Rai, Thailand. She is the founder of Xiu Nature Connections and is an active contributor of the Shinrin-yoku 森林浴 Forest Bathing - Singapore community.

Desiree is a practising psychologist who believes that wellness in not all in the mind, but very much also in the body and soul. Did you know that the word 'psychology' comes from the Greek words that translate as 'the study of the soul'? In pursuit of a deeper understanding of this study, Desiree completed a life-changing 200-hour yoga teacher training in Hatha yoga with Emily Kuser and her international faculty. Since then, Desiree has continued to deepen her personal and professional yoga journey, which included a Yin Yoga teacher training at Hom Yoga with Leigh Khoo and Floydd Wood. The journey she experienced with these teachers truly shook things up and awakened a desire to share the gifts that have been illuminated. She is grateful for the opportunity to share this journey in the peaceful, light-filled space of Yoga in Common, and thrilled to have now found a natural partnership with Xiu Nature Connections. Desiree's intention is clear - to hold space for the journey back to Self.
